Founder

Prince Abdul Rahman bin Ahmed al-Sudairi was born in the city of Al-Ghat in the year 1338 Ah/ (1920 ad). He served as the Emir of Al - Jawf in the period from 1362 ah to 1410 Ah (1943-1990 ad). During his tenure in the emirate, he devoted his life and potential to serving the community and achieving growth and development in the region.

He devoted his life to serving the homeland in general, the Al-Jawf region and the AL-Ghat governorate in particular. He worked at the official and private levels to serve science and culture, and this was accompanied by the launch of cultural and social initiatives to be role models. His education was limited to the book, but he did not stop there, but continued to make efforts to develop his culture and experience, which he invested in community service. He did not distinguish between his role as an official and his role as a citizen, but his life and activities were mixed with official and private public patriotic concerns, and he was keen to touch the lives of community members and their needs directly and without there being any barriers between him and them.

The founder's pioneering positions are evident in the public library he founded, as well as other similar initiatives he has adopted. The public library dedicated to women, which he established, was the first women's library in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Under his patronage, Al Jouf has made significant progress in many important areas including public education, healthcare, agriculture and economic development in general.

The founder's initiatives came from a deep sense of Duty, an awareness of the importance of Science and culture in building societies, and the humility of his deans, and the feeling of happiness whenever he was able to contribute to the service of his homeland and society. This sense of Duty, desire to volunteer, selflessness, love of science, culture and community service are the values on which the Abdulrahman Al Sudairi Cultural Center is based and has become its symbol.

The camel race, the first organized race to be held in the kingdom, was held in the year 1383 Ah /1963 ad.

The first farmers ' competition was held in 1393 Ah/ 1973 ad.

The first award for local carpets was held in the year 1385 Ah /1965 ad.

Scientific Excellence Awards, financial prizes are presented to the outstanding students from Al Jouf schools at various stages.

Al Jouf week is a cultural and Heritage Festival; it aims to develop local creativity and initiatives, and raise the spirit of competition among the people of the region, and its activities include: camel racing, farmers competition, and the local carpet exhibition, the first festival was held in the year 1385 ah, the festival represented an opportunity to introduce Al Jouf and its heritage, and achieved communication between it and the rest of the kingdom.

  • Among his hobbies: breeding Purebred Arabian horses, camels, palm cultivation.
  • He died-May Allah have mercy on him-on 26/2/1427 Ah (26/3/2006).
