The role of women in achieving sustainable development in the ghat community as a model

Under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Noura bint Mohammed Al Saud ( campus of the Emir of Riyadh region), Munira bint Mohammed Al-Melhem forum for community service held its annual forum at its eleventh session in Dar Al-Rahmaniya, Al-Ghat governorate, entitled: The role of women in sustainable development :Al-Ghat community as a model, on Wednesday, the 17th of Jumada al-Awwal, 1440 Ah (January 23, 2019 ).

The forum was opened with a speech by the chairman of the forum board and assistant director general for women's section Affairs A. Dr. Mashael bint Abdul Mohsen al Sudairi, who welcomed her Highness Princess Noura bint Mohammed Al Saud, and thanked her for sponsoring the Munira bint Mohammed Al Melhem forum for community service at its eleventh session, and her role in consolidating the role of women in contributing to sustainable development in various sectors in the Kingdom, and also welcomed the attendees, and pointed out that this forum, one of the cultural activities of It is held annually at Dar Al-Rahmaniya in Al-ghat and aims to highlight a topic of importance to the women's sector in Al-Ghat governorate in particular, and the kingdom in general.

Al Sudairi said that this year's forum deals with the role of women in sustainable development with the participation of a group of academics and specialists from various universities and national institutions, in order to enrich the experiences gained for the participants by informing them of new and valuable experiences that will achieve the goals of this forum, through its focus on the role of women in sustainable development In line with the kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to raise the status of women and support their participation rate in the fields of economic, social and environmental activities, with a focus on humanitarian, cultural and developmental dimensions Socio-economic and developmental.

Then, the forum symposium began by holding its session, which included working papers within the following themes of the symposium: planning for sustainable development according to community needs in Al-Ghat governorate, and presenting models of pioneering experiences in Saudi society in the field of women's contribution to sustainable development, women in Vision 2030 and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Opened a. Dr. Meshaal Al Sudairi discussed the role of women in sustainable development and how to take advantage of the available opportunities, then started a dialogue with the participants, and asked questions that help to provide information that enriches the discussion and presents the reality of women and their role in sustainable development in general.


The first axis: planning for sustainable development according to community needs in Al-Ghat governorate

I spoke a. Dr. Al Jawhara Al Zamil on the societal needs of women in Al Ghat governorate and their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, through a recent study conducted by Zamil entitled: Assessing the societal needs of women in Al Ghat governorate to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals with the support of the Abdul Rahman al Sudairi Cultural Center.

Zamil reviewed the objectives of the study she conducted, namely: assessing the social and economic needs of women in the AL-Ghat region to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, prioritizing the needs of women in the AL-Ghat region to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, assessing women's needs in Al-Ghat, identifying difficulties that hinder the satisfaction of women's needs in Al-Ghat, reaching a proposed planning vision to satisfy the needs of women in Al-Ghat.

وتوصلت النتائج إلى أن الاحتياجات الترفيهية تمثل أول الاحتياجات المجتمعية التي توليها المرأة بمنطقة الغاط أهمية نسبية عالية، يليها في الترتيب الثاني الاحتياجات الصحية ثم احتياجات البنية التحتية والإسكان والمرافق، وفي الترتيب الرابع كانت الاحتياجات البيئية، يليها في الترتيب الخامس الاحتياجات الاجتماعية،  بينما جاءت الاحتياجات الاقتصادية في الترتيب السادس، وفي الترتيب السابع والأخير جاء متوسط الاحتياجات التعليمية والثقافية وتقييم الخدمات المتوفرة في منطقة الغاط وهذا يعني أن الخدمات جيدة كما تراها النساء عيّنة الدراسة ما عدا الخدمات الترفيهية فهي مقبولة. وكشفت النتائج عن إثبات صحة اختبار الفرض الأول الذي مؤداه «لا توجد فروق معنوية ذات دلالة إحصائية في تقدير الاحتياجات المجتمعية للمرأة بمحافظة الغاط بحسب الخصائص الديموغرافية»، ماعدا في حالة واحدة عندما وُجِدت فروق معنوية ذات دلالة احصائية عند مستوى معنوية أقل من (0.05) بين متوسطات استجابات عينة الدراسة في تقدير الاحتياجات المتعلقة بالبنية التحتية والإسكان والمرافق، في حالة إذا كان رب الأسرة هو الزوج. وتوصلت الدراسة الى تحديد الصعوبات التي تعوق إشباع احتياجات المرأة، والمقترحات لإشباع احتياجات المرأة، والتخطيط لعدد من المبادرات التنفيذية لإشباع الاحتياجات المجتمعية للمرأة لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة.

The second axis: presenting models of pioneering experiences in Saudi society in the field of women's contribution to sustainable development.

Her Highness Princess Noura bint Mohammed Al Saud presented a working paper in which she reviewed her experience in social work in various pioneering fields in Riyadh, Qassim and Asir, including the fields of the women's Committee for community development in Riyadh region, the initiatives of Princess Noura University, the leadership program and women's skills development, Ithra leaders, and reading aloud to children, and spoke about her concern for women's participation in About the work of her highness in the field of supporting productive families and creating new outlets for marketing and employment, and Her Highness's sponsorship of the activities of Saudi women in international participations.

Her Highness pointed out that the committee has implemented many development programs in partnership with many entities and sectors, held exploratory workshops in many governorates, and built a database of young men and women from Riyadh.

The third axis: women in Vision 2030 and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

The paper submitted by A. Dr. She also touched upon the concept of sustainable development and the role of women in achieving it, and also pointed to the most important positive indicators that have led to accelerating development and empowering women in the kingdom.

The paper reviewed the relationship of Vision 2030 with the Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of discussing six major sustainable development goals, namely (poverty and hunger eradication, good health, well-being, quality education, equality, women's empowerment and economic growth), in order to highlight the progress witnessed by Saudi women in achieving these goals in the light of Vision 2030, and also addressed the kingdom's efforts in combating poverty and hunger and mechanisms The kingdom is pursuing to eliminate it, as well as efforts to develop the health and education sectors.

She referred to the efforts made to empower women and achieve equal rights, including: allowing women to drive a car, issuing a harassment law and a system of protection from abuse, organizing an alimony fund for divorcees and children, proving the custody of the mother for her children in a non-adversarial situation and ending it without the need to file a lawsuit, and the decision to enable women to practice sports activities in public education and Matches and events.

Saudi women also participated in decision-making in government and private institutions, namely: the public sector: such as women holding many leadership positions, such as deputy minister and Undersecretary, and the presidency of sub-municipalities such as Jeddah governorate; in the private sector: holding the position of CEO of a number of leading banks and companies; and in education: opening new specialties for students at universities, such as the media And the appointment of the first dean of Taif University for both male and female students, and in economics and trade: allowing women to participate in trade without the need for the consent of her guardian; and in the judicial sector: Granting a notary license to a woman, which allows her to perform some notary functions, and granting her a license to practice as a lawyer after three years of training.

Initiatives launched at the forum
It will be adopted by the Abdulrahman Al Sudairi Cultural Center

Assistant Director General A. Dr. Mashael bint Abdul Mohsen al-Sudairi on the allocation of Munira Al-Melhem initiative for the annual community service this year (for Community Initiatives for sustainable projects). It includes:

١) the oral reading program with the King Abdulaziz Public Library.
2) establishment of a volunteer club to provide opportunities for community participation and deepen belonging and citizenship.
As announced by a. Dr. Mashael Al Sudairi about establishing programs in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, namely:
1) a continuous training program for electronic marketing, to train on electronic marketing tools in order to achieve the marketing of any product from home and improve remote work.
٢) the establishment of the Cultural Center in Ghat: which is concerned with the development and rehabilitation of the region in line with Vision 2030 and the establishment of incubators in multiple fields.
Her Highness Princess Noura bint Mohammed announced initiatives that will be held in cooperation with the Abdulrahman Al-Sudairi cultural center, namely:
1) the initiative of the global goals for Sustainable Development Applications Program in light of the kingdom's Vision 2030 in cooperation with the Observatory of social responsibility at Majmaah University.
2) initiative of an English language training program for children according to international curricula.
3) the initiative of holding plastic exhibitions to contribute to various national development programs.
4) saving awareness initiative and building saving behavior in Al Ghat, in partnership with King Saud University. He also announced the governor of Al-Ghat A. Mansour bin Saad al Sudairi about some of the future projects that he has started working on to meet many of the environmental needs of the women of the governorate, including: the establishment of the AL-Ghat Environmental Association, the construction of three reserves in different places, and the National Park project with an area of (25) million square meters, which will be established in the valley in southern Al-Ghat.

Training workshops
Held on the sidelines of the forum

The forum authority organized three training workshops, within the activities of the Munira bint Mohammed Al-Melhem forum for community service, in which more than ninety girls and women from the local community participated, and they included three topics:

1-economic and Social Empowerment Workshop (tamkni )

Presented by a. Amal Saleh Al-Sayegh and assistant coach A. Khulood Mohammed al-Omari-King Abdulaziz and his men foundation for talent and creativity.
The workshop included several topics, the most important of which are: the concept of empowerment and its importance, empowerment tools, know yourself, your own information Bank, visiting guest, creative painting exercise.

2-Workshop on rationalizing consumption and family financial planning

Presented by a. Suad Al-Ghamdi (Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University). The workshop included several themes, the most important of which are:
- Identify the basic financial concepts, know the basic concepts of savings and its benefits, identify the relationship between savings, income, consumption and investment, identify the family budget, identify dealing with consumer loans.

3-workshop towards better health

Presented by Dr. Dina tarbazouni (Faculty of food and Agricultural Sciences, King Saud University).
- The workshop included several topics, the most important of which are: the main food elements, balanced nutrition (food pyramid) and meal planning, how to calculate BMI body mass index to maintain a healthy weight, health diseases associated with malnutrition (obesity, diabetes, hypertension), important health strategies to reduce and treat malnutrition diseases.
